To commemorate the auspicious occasion of Eid-Milad-an-Nabi (Sallallaho Aalihi Wassallam),whole structure of Allama Iqbal Library was decorated with beautiful rope light illuminations from 15-18 February, 2011.
The book entitled “Rasul Mir: Nadir Sukhan Goe” by Dr Nazir Azaad was released in a function organized by the Allama Iqbal Library in collaboration with Adbi Markaz at Ibn Khaldun Auditorium. The book is literary review of famed Kashmiri poet Rasul Mir. The book release function was distinct in the way that some speakers delivered lectures from USA through video conferencing.The function was chaired by the Hon’ble Vice Chancellor Prof. (Dr.) Riyaz Punjabi and during his speech appealed to the budding writers to “devise a proper theory and philosophy of literary criticism for Kashmiri literature.”Similar views were echoed by Prof Rahman Rahi, who presided over the function.Muneeb-ur-Rehman, a Kashmiri poet from Virginia said the book was “extremely well organized and presented a thesis on poetry of Rasul Mir.”Muzaffar Aazim, another senior Kashmiri poet, from USA said: “In this book the writer has opposed some established writers on the same topic. The beauty with good writers is that they can differ and dissent and agree to disagree”.

Book Release and Panel Discussion on Freeze Frame: Glimpses from Kashmir (an anthology of essays) by Syeda Afshana, Senior Assistant Professor, MERC. Prof. (Dr.) Riyaz Punjabi was Chief Guest and Prof. Agha Ashraf Ali acted as Guest of Honour. The book was reviewed by Prof. Neerja Mattoo. The Panelist included Mr. Muhammad Sayeed Malik senior journalist of state.
Prof. Talat Ahmad, Vice Chancellor University of Kashmir inaugurated the much awaited “Remote Access Facility” for online access of huge collection of e-resources subscribed by Allama Iqbal Library. The Library provides online access to over 15,000 scholarly e-journals, through individual and packaged subscriptions, to both current and in many cases back years. Besides, Library provides access to more than 3 Lakh eBooks covering different subject disciplines from the world renowned eBook portals like Questia and ebrary. The facility will enable the registered faculty members/ scholars/students to access the online resources of the Library from any part of the world at any time. The facility will also link the students of North and South campuses to the Library and will thus fulfill a long pending demand of the students.
