Allama Iqbal Library has been amongst first fifty (50) University Libraries of India selected by the University Grants Commission in its first phase that began in the year 2004 for free online access to peer reviewed scholarly journals (published from all over the world) under its erstwhile UGC-INFONET Digital Library Consortium. The UGC-INFONET Digital Library Consortium, one of the largest consortium in India, was launched in December 2003 by Dr APJ Abdul Kalam, the then President of India to support education and research in universities. The consortium proved to be a recipe to University Libraries which have been discontinuing subscription to scholarly journals because of “Serial Crisis”.
Since 2015, Allama Iqbal Library has been one of the active members of e-ShodhSindhu Consortium (eSS) for Higher Education E-Resources which is being executed by INFLIBNET Centre and has been formed by MHRD, Govt. of India as a result of merging of three consortia initiatives, namely UGC-INFONET Digital Library Consortium, NLIST and INDEST-AICTE Consortium. These e-resources covered in eSS, covers almost all subject disciplines.
