Allama Iqbal Library has been amongst first Fifty (50) University Libraries of India selected by the University Grants Commission in its first phase that began in the year 2004 for free online access to peer reviewed scholarly journals (published from all over the world) under its erstwhile UGC-INFONET Digital Library Consortium. The UGC-INFONET Digital Library Consortium, one of the largest consortium in India, was launched in December 2003 by Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam, the then President of India to support education and research in Universities. The consortium turned out to be a solution for university libraries that had been discontinuing subscription to scholarly journals because of “Serial Crisis”.
From the 2015 till 2024, the Allama Iqbal Library remained one of the active members of e-ShodhSindhu Consortium (eSS) for Higher Education E-Resources, Ministry of Education (MoE), Govt. of India which was being executed by INFLIBNET Centre, Gandhinagar and was formed by MoE (formerly MHRD), Govt. of India as a result of merging of three consortia initiatives, namely UGC-INFONET Digital Library Consortium, NLIST and INDEST-AICTE Consortium.
Since 2025, the Allama Iqbal Library has been one of the active member institutes of the One Nation One Subscription (ONOS) initiative of the Government of India. Under ONOS, the Library has access to 13000+ eJournals from around 30 leading publishers, besides access to Web of Science (WoS)-an abstract and citation database.
