Book release function of the book entitled “Khat-e-Irshad” written by Mr. Bashir Warsi was organized by Allama Iqbal Library & Adbi Markaz Kamraz on 13th December, 2014 at Ibn Khaldun Auditorium, Allama Iqbal Library.

12 August, 2014 (Librarians' Day)
Allama Iqbal Library, University of Kashmir celebrated “LIBRARIANS’ DAY” on 12th August, 2014 in remembrance of 122nd Birth Anniversary of Padmashri Professor (Dr.) S. R. Ranganathan (1892-1972) popularly known as the “Father of Library Science in India” and “World Librarian”, who had spearheaded Library development in India and abroad. The function was attended by the College Librarians, Library Professionals, Research Scholars & Students of Library & Information science of Kashmir Valley.
The Hon’ble Vice-Chancellor of University of Kashmir Prof A.M. Shah was the Chief Guest on the occasion. The Vice-Chancellor highlighted the importance of a Library and described it as core competency of a University system. He also advising Library Professionals to be acquainted with the latest technologies and stressed upon to start thinking about the library structure in future and focus not only on the development of a Library system but overall intellectual development.
Prof. M. Ashraf Wani, Dean Academic Affairs, KU in his address highlighted the changes that Librarians and Librarianship has undergone because of Information Technology advancements over the years.
Prof. Zaffar A. Reshi, Registrar University of Kashmir while speaking on the occasion emphasized that Library professionals should live up to the expectations of users and try to inculcate reading habits among them.
In his guest lecture SKAUST-K Librarian Mr. Bashir Ahmad Wani highlighted the role of Librarians and Libraries in the present Information age and laid emphasis to improve IT skills and implement technological advancements in libraries for better results and benefit of the users.
Earlier, Dr. Abdul Majid Baba, University Librarian, University of Kashmir in his welcome address highlighted the important aspects of the life of Prof. (Dr.) S.R. Ranganathan and explained how the Library professionals have updated themselves with the emerging Information and communication technologies.
During the programme a compilation in the form of book titled “Guldasta-e-Ghalib” by Mr. Manzoor Ahmad Hajam, Library Professional from Allama Iqbal Library was released by the Hon’ble Vice Chancellor, University of Kashmir.

• Practical demonstration by Mr. Gulam Jeelani Shah, Library Professional Allama Iqbal Library on "National Library and Information Services Infrastructure for Scholarly Content (N-LIST)” of UGC-INFONET Digital Library Consortium, INFLIBNET Centre and the INDEST-AICTE Consortium, IIT Delhi.
11-12 June, 2014 (Extension Lectures by the IIM-Lucknow Professor at KU)
Allama Iqbal Library organised an extension lecture series on 11-12 June 2014 by Prof. (Dr.) Roshan Lal Raina, Professor at Indian Institute of Management Lucknow (IIM-L) for the benefit of Faculty members, Research Scholars and Students of Library & Information Science, The Business School and Business & Financial Studies.
On 11th June, 2014 special lectures were delivered by Prof. Raina for the Faculty members, Library Professionals, Research Scholars and the Students of Library and Information Science. Prof. Raina highlighted the changing scenario of librarianship in context with Information and Communication technology (ICT).
On 12thJune, 2014 an extension lecture on "Communication for Management" by Prof. Raina was organised for the benefit of Faculty members, Research Scholars and Students of the faculty of Commerce and Management studies, University of Kashmir.Prof. Raina shared his vast experience about the world renowned IIM-Lucknow and spoke about the importance of communication in the present and future times and its relevance viz-a-viz the management studies. He stressed on improving communication skills and highlighted the role of expression and reception in the field of communication. The lecture was knowledgeable and enlightening and was highly praised by the participants. Later on, an interactive question answer session was held in which number of students and scholars put questions to Prof. Raina and were responded by the expert satisfactorily. Prof. (Dr.) S. Mufeed Ahmad, Director, The Business School also spoke on the occasion. At the very outset he thanked Prof. Raina for sparing his valuable time and sharing his experience and expertise. Further he requested Prof. Raina about the internship of students of the Faculty of Commerce and Management Studies at IIM-Lucknow and Prof. Raina responded positively. At the beginning, Dr. Abdul Majid Baba, University Librarian, Allama Iqbal Library introduced Prof. Raina to the participants and shed some light on the contributions of Prof. Raina in the fields of Management and Library & Information Science. The programme ended with the vote of thanks.
23 APRIL, 2014 (WORLD BOOK & COPYRIGHT DAY)
With the aim to pay a universal mark of respect to books and authors and to persuade people to discov
er the pleasure of reading and gain a renewed respect for the irreplaceable contributions of those who have furthered the social and cultural progress of humanity, Allama Iqbal Library on the occasion of World Book & Copyright day organized a one day seminar on Book reading and Plagiarism on 23rdApril 2014.
The seminar was inaugurated by Acting Vice-Chancellor, University of Kashmir Prof. Mohammad Amin Sofi. Dean Academic Affairs, University of Kashmir, Prof A.M Shah, Sr. Producer, EMMRC, University of Kashmir Mr. Ajaz-ul-Haq and University Librarian Dr. A.M. Baba highlighted the importance of the day on the occasion.
Highlights of the Day included:-
1. Special lectures on Book Reading, Print/Electronic media, Book Publishing and Plagiarism were delivered by Mr. Ajaz-ul-Haq, Dr. A.M. Baba and Dr. Sumeer Gul, Sr. Asstt. Professor, DLIS, University of Kashmir
2. Certificate/ Prize Distribution to first Three Frequent Users of Allama Iqbal Library for the Academic Session 2013-14.
3. Two Day Book Exhibition of Personal collection of Shair-e-Kashmir Ghulam Ahmad Mahjoor.
4. Questions Answer Sessions wherein questions pertaining to famous Books/Authors were asked to the participants before and after the lectures. Prizes were given to the participants who answered correctly.
